The INITIATIVE

Purpose:

The Louisiana Youth Leadership Initiative (LYLI or The INITIATIVE) is a resource and a think tank for high school students who have started, plan to start, or currently run INITIATIVES. High school students are invited to apply as in‐state members or out‐of‐state members. All members receive the same benefits.

INITIATIVE:

An INITIATIVE is a project, such as a non‐profit, youth group, student organization, or fundraiser run by a high school student, that is a significant responsibility, requires a significant commitment, and is of significant importance. The purpose of an INITIATIVE is to make a positive impact on the world and can be ongoing or of limited duration.

Meetings:

Monthly meetings allow members the chance to discuss their INITIATIVES, receive feedback from other high school students with similar goals, and learn from each other’s experiences. At each meeting a guest speaker presents a topic that will benefit the members in some aspect of their INITIATIVE. These speakers are business and community leaders who are willing to share their expertise. The meetings are held in varying areas of Louisiana and members may volunteer to host meetings in their city and secure a speaker for that meeting. LYLI members travel to meetings, unless they live too far away to drive, in which case they can Skype into the meeting. Attire is business casual for all meetings.

Membership:

Membership applications are accepted year‐round. Applications should be emailed to BeverlyC.Brown@yahoo.com or mailed to THE INITIATIVE, 816 West 15th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
